1953年奔驰推出了车厂内部称为180的车型,该车型就是奔驰170车型的继承者,也就是第一代的奔驰E级,从此奔驰中大型车的历史正式拉开了序幕。

1976年,底盘代号W123的第四代E级轿车正式登场。这一代E级的车灯由上一代的直立改为水平,水箱隔栅的造型也更现代化。在外观上,这一代E级与S级(W116)十分相似了,内部空间自然是更加的宽敞。在底盘方面,新车采用前双A臂后半拖曳臂的设计,并且配备了在当时很先进自动水平调整装置,无论载荷多少,均可将车身维持一定高度。
1986年奔驰将新一代W124中型豪华轿车命名为E-Class,第五代的E级轿车也就此诞生。第五代可以说是一个全新的车型,不仅外观进行了较大的改变,而且内饰和发动机也与前几代大不相同。
1995年,底盘代号W210的第六代E级轿车正式亮相。新车正面最大的就是当时十分独特的四圆灯造型,方正稳重让这一代的奔驰E级轿车拥有自己独特的魅力。到2002年第六代的奔驰E级轿车总共生产了130万辆之多,它和C级车型一起成为了奔驰的支柱车型。
2002年1月15日第七代的奔驰E级轿车在布鲁塞尔车展上首次亮相。全新的奔驰E级车延续了第六代的椭圆大灯的设计,车身曲线方面则一改原来的稳重,变得流线动感。
后面几款我们都比较熟悉了,现在最新款应该是奔驰E的第九代车型,底盘代号W213,也是全新改款!
